[6:58] Traven: Hello Vide
[6:58] VS: Hi Traven
[6:59]
Traven: Are you here for the money tree or the forum talking about it?
:)
[6:59] VS: The forum.
[7:00] Traven: by all means please
take a seat then :)
[7:00] VS: tx
[7:01] Traven: we'll start
in a couple minutes - with SL being a pain with TP's today :)
[7:01]
SA: hello Traven
[7:01] Traven: Welcome Sondra :)
[7:01] SA:
thx for inviting :)
[7:01] VS: Don't hurry on my account; I may be off
getting breakfast anyway...
[7:02] Traven: LOL!
[7:02] Traven:
Welcome MarkByron
[7:03] MF: thought it was yesterday - glad I didn't
miss it
[7:03] MF: are you using voice?
[7:03] IM: Second
Life: User not online - message will be stored and delivered
later.
[7:04] Traven: I was going to see how many were using voice on
arival before deciding that
[7:04] Traven: likely I'll type most of
it
[7:05] MF: i enabled it but I can only listen
[7:05]
Traven: I will however be posting a transcript of this discussion to the Money
Tree website at http://moneytree.wolfhavenproductions.com
[7:05]
MF: cool
[7:05] SA: yes, sounds good
[7:05] Traven: Money
Trees have been in Second Life since 2003
[7:06] Traven: The Original
Money Tree was created by Sapphire Bombay of Bravo Bravo
[7:06] Traven:
it was an ingenious creation and one that soon became very popular all over
SL.
[7:06] Traven: The original Money Tree worked by drawing directly
on the owners Stipend funds
[7:07] Traven: it took precisely L$500 from
the owner for newbies to pick from the tree.
[7:07] Traven: The owner -
or others - could also donate to the tree to supplement those
funds.
[7:07] Traven: Welcome Tiberies :)
[7:07] Traven:
Tiberius*
[7:07] TB: hi "the legend" Traven Sachs....
[7:07]
TB: hi all
[7:08] Traven: in 2005 Linden Labs made a decision to
eliminate stipend from free accounts
[7:08] Traven: they also decided
to reduce the stipend of premium accounts from L$500 to L$300
[7:09]
Traven: When I contacted Sapphire and asked if she could make a tree that ONLY
took donations - she declined to do so.
[7:09] Traven: That is where I
stepped in.
[7:09] Traven: I made my own money tree
[7:09]
Traven: As a result people seeing MY version of the tree started asking
questions about it
[7:09] Traven: as well as whether or not I'd decide
to sell it to others
[7:09] Traven: after much cajoling I decided to do
so
[7:10] Traven: In January of 2006 I released version 2 of the
Wolhfaven Money Tree to the SL Market for L$1
[7:10] Traven: I also
gave them away to whomever asked
[7:10] Traven: One thing folks kept
asking me for was the ability to 'know' where the trees were in
SL.
[7:11] Traven: I didn't figure that in to my plans right
away.
[7:11] Traven: .
[7:11] Traven: In May of 2006 I was
contacted by someone telling me that someone was using a money tree as a
scamming device.
[7:12] Traven: Upon investigation it turned out he'd
essentially 'cloned' the look of my tree through photoediting and it was
designed to ONLY take money
[7:12] Traven: http://moneytree.wolfhavenproductions.com
[7:12]
Traven: its online :)
[7:12] MF: ahh okay, thanks
[7:13]
Traven: a discussion with Linden Labs and a DMCA takedown notice later and the
scammer was squelched.
[7:13] Traven: A short time after that event,
Sapphire Bombay contacted me asking me to stop selling my Wolfhaven Money
Tree.
[7:14] Traven: Since mine was functionally different - and
visibly different - I declined to do so.
[7:14] Traven: She couldn't
copyright "Money Tree"
[7:14] Traven: and since my version was the
Wolfhaven Money Tree - well - there wasn't much to be done there except
argue.
[7:14] Traven: I again asked if she'd release one purely
donation driven
[7:15] Traven: again she declined.
[7:15]
Traven: Since 2007 I have been promising to release a newer version of the Money
Tree
[7:16] Traven: and at the beginning of may I released the v4.0
Trees with the Golden Apple program.
[7:16] Traven: Is anyone here
unfamiliar with the Golden Apple program?
[7:16] SA: no, your gA
programm is a very good idea, btw
[7:16] Traven: ty
[7:17]
Traven: essentially the Golden Apple can appear on ANY tree that opts into the
program
[7:17] Traven: 5% of alldonations to golden apple trees goes
into the pot
[7:17] Traven: and when it appears - the lucky person that
picks it gets it all :)
[7:17] Traven: There have been 24 golden apples
given out thus far
[7:18] SA: wow
[7:18] Traven: Now... plans
for the future - where to go next with the Money Tree.
[7:18] TB: ;))
cool
[7:18] Traven: One thing - simple really - that I plan on doing -
is having the Golden Apple winners receive an award token
[7:19]
Traven: a trophy with a small golden apple on it that says they
won
[7:19] Traven: I am also going to be adding a Golden Apple winners
list to the website.
[7:19] TB: a trophy ....LOL
[7:19]
Traven: so that folks can get their names into the 'hall of fame' so to
speak.
[7:19] VS: What was the average amount of the 24 awards to date?
Max? Min?
[7:19] Traven: smallest payment so far was
116L
[7:20] Traven: largest was over 3.6k
[7:20] TB:
woooww
[7:20] SA: woooow
[7:20] VS: Wow. Tx.
[7:20]
Traven: average is about 400-450L
[7:20] SA: very nice for
newbies
[7:20] Traven: indeed
[7:20] Traven: I am currently
only allowing GA Trees onto the website
[7:21] Traven: I was
considering allowing the other tree owners the same privldege but with the
distinction of NOT being listed as GA Trees.
[7:21] SA: what about a
second list?
[7:21] Traven: i.e. either a seperate page - OR having a
flag next to trees with Golden Apple active
[7:21] SA: gg...
ok
[7:21] Traven: Any thoughts on that?
[7:21] TB: because I
beginn again, as a newbie ;))
[7:21] Traven: LOL!
[7:22]
Traven: yes that was another thing that folks would tell me about over the past
three years
[7:22] Traven: Newbies makeing new newbies where their time
ran out
[7:22] Traven: it was one of the reasons I made the v4 trees
more flexible to allow up to 60 days if the owner wanted
[7:23] SA:
mmmh... I think that`s not really a problem
[7:23] TB: good idea
60
[7:23] MF: I do have a suggestion for the master list on your
website - perhaps sort the list by donated amount
[7:23] Traven: There
will come a point in SL's life where we'll (the content creators) be able to
track users by their IP Address - just like a website can.
[7:23] SA: I
think we have really enough controls
[7:23] Traven: at that point I'm
guessing that tree owners will appeal to me to add that feature
somehow.
[7:24] MF: well it's certainly a problem I had - an army of
alts (even bots) raiding the tree
[7:24] Traven: its been one of the
biggest problems in SL for various reasons - that free accounts can be so easily
made - not just where the trees are concerned - but for other reasons as
well.
[7:24] Traven: but thats another discussion.
[7:24]
Traven: LOL!
[7:25] TB: nothing is safe....ip scanning...i dont
believe
[7:25] MF: Unfortunately I had to change the tree to require
payment info
[7:25] Traven Sachs shakes his head
[7:25] SA:
yes, but I have met a lot of these old made new newbies and a lot of them have
payed their amount just to another tree, so it has kept into the circle
again
[7:25] Traven: yes even IP's can be spoofed
[7:25] MF:
well there might be another way - an alogirthm of sorts to ferret out
alts
[7:26] Traven: Now - your thoughts - ideas - suggestions - what
would YOU like to see added to the Wolfhaven Money Tree that you think would
make it even more of an attraction?
[7:26] MF: here's
one
[7:26] MF: you need to require the avatar to be within 20 meters of
the tree
[7:26] MF: or closer
[7:27] Traven:
hmmmm
[7:27] SA: and then?
[7:27] MF: require the avatar to
type in a code
[7:27] Traven: excellent suggestion
[7:27] SA:
oh no... I hate this enough on websites
[7:27] Traven: that way they
can't just TP in and nail the tree from anywhere
[7:27] MF: like /1 777
(some random number)
[7:27] Traven: no no good
sugestion
[7:27] MF: well there needs to be a way to defeat
bots
[7:27] TB: UUID of the AVA
[7:27] Traven: have hover text
on the tree base with the current code.
[7:27] TB: and
random
[7:27] Traven: to activate picking for that
session
[7:28] MF: don't want to make it overly hard for the genuine
new resident but there's too many alts and bots
[7:28] TB: black sheb
is everywhere.....
[7:28] Traven: makes sense
[7:28] MF: and
how does a genuine new resident find out about the tree?
[7:29] Traven:
thus far - word of mouth
[7:29] Traven: would be nice to have a money
tree sign at the new user waystations
[7:29] SA: if you add this
function to one of your versions, Traven, then be so kind and make the way that
it can be deactivated, too. Please#
[7:29] Traven: but I've yet to
figure out how to accomplish that .
[7:30] Traven: going forward all
functions on the money tree will be owner controllable
[7:30] TB: NSA
in the tree...not so good...
[7:30] Traven: just as the GA program is
OPT IN only
[7:30] VS: Um, any way to have the trees show up in
response to searches for "camping"? I'm tempted to suggest changing the name of
the tree for this?
[7:30] MF: perhaps a portion of the golden apple
program can be used for promotion such as classified ad
[7:30]
MystiTool HUD 1.0.23: Entering chat range: WhisperSadie Heartsdale
(14m)
[7:31] Traven: I would hesitate to do that only because they are
'not' in fact a camping device
[7:31] Traven: considering that only
newer users can access them
[7:31] MF: perhaps you could provide an
info thing to the SL Mentor group
[7:31] Traven: explain that
Mark?
[7:32] MF: well the Second Life mentor are a
group
[7:32] Traven: that much I know
[7:32] MF: and they hang
out at the help islands and so forth
[7:32] MF: if they know about it,
they can help newbs
[7:32] Traven: not a bad idea :)
[7:33]
Traven: not bad at all in fact :)
[7:33] Traven: any other thoughts or
suggestions?
[7:33] MF: i mentioned it before but sorting your master
list on the website
[7:33] Traven: actually it IS sorted
:)
[7:33] Traven: it rotates based on the times the trees last reported
in
[7:34] Traven: newest at the top
[7:34] SA: and here is a
sorted list with the actually donated tree^^
[7:34] MF: by amount
donated to the GA program <g>
[7:34] Traven: with a time/date
stamp
[7:34] Traven: in fact trees that are late reporting in are
displayed in orange and red at the bottom
[7:34] Traven: red means they
are very close to removal
[7:34] MF: that's a good idea
[7:35]
MystiTool HUD 1.0.23: Entering chat range: Rado Arado (14m)
[7:35]
Traven: perhaps a 'sort' function that the person using the website can
trigger?
[7:35] MF: does each tree display the website
prominently?
[7:35] SA: why should them?
[7:35] Traven: you
mean the actual URL for the site?
[7:35] Traven: no
[7:35] MF:
iso they know where to find other trees :)
[7:35] MF: i didn't
know
[7:35] Traven: but if someone clicks the info column on the tree
they are given the notecard
[7:35] Traven: which comes from my server
:)
[7:36] SA: lol... using the search function has a very helping
function, btw^^
[7:36] Traven: search?
[7:36] Traven: you mean
inworld?
[7:36] SA: sure
[7:36] Traven: yes the trees all show
up on it by default
[7:37] SA: how many creators are working on a mt
actually, you, Saphire and?
[7:38] Traven: actually
[7:38]
Traven: Sapphire has retired
[7:38] Traven: her Golden Ticket program
is offline
[7:38] Traven: and her existing Money Trees in world are
slowly being replaced
[7:38] SA: hehe... yours is more
popular
[7:38] Traven: I know of two others
[7:39] Traven: one
created by someone that isn't selling it
[7:39] Traven: because he
wants his to be unique
[7:39] Traven: and it does some unique
things
[7:39] Traven: and another that is called The Little Money
Tree
[7:39] SA: never heard
[7:39] Traven: which doesn't
really spawn new bills
[7:39] Traven: they're flexi and attached to the
tree
[7:39] Traven: so they wave in the wind
[7:40] Traven:
its not limited to newbies though and not very popular
[7:40] Traven:
there is of course - also Money Tree Island
[7:40] Traven: but they
don't use a Money Tree per say
[7:40] Traven: just have a HUGE tree in
the island middle that rains dollar bills.
[7:40] MF: one other
suggestion - can you make it so it requires a 1 minute delay between picking
fruit?
[7:40] Traven: a delay on picking per person mark or a general
delay?
[7:41] MF: per person
[7:41] SA: I think Mark, you`ll
need a very specific version^^
[7:41] MF: so if a person comes and
there's lot of fruit to be picked
[7:41] TB: ;))
[7:41] MF:
they can't immediately pick it all
[7:41] MF: they have to wait x
amount of time between picks
[7:42] TB: your SIM is to lagggy
...;))
[7:42] Traven: interesting thought
[7:42] Traven: could
also be adjustable by the owner
[7:42] Traven: this sim
tiberius?
[7:42] TB: no....Mark's
[7:42] Traven:
LOL!
[7:42] SA: ;))
[7:42] MF: my sim? doubt
it
[7:43] MystiTool HUD 1.0.23: Entering chat range: Space Linden
(19m)
[7:43] Traven: every time I glance over at Marks avatar the Annie
Lennox song "Little Bird" pops into my head
[7:43] MF: AH
HAHAHAHA
[7:43] TB: ;))
[7:43] SA: lol
[7:43] TB:
yeahh thats true
[7:44] MF: help if the sit target for these chairs
were adjustable for tinies
[7:44] Traven: lol sorry
Mark
[7:44] Traven: my fault I didn't account for that
;)
[7:44] TB: hee Marke take it easy....
[7:44] SA: not
sitting, just standing, Mark ^^
[7:44] TB: its a jook
[7:44]
Traven: in brief - coming soon
[7:44] MF:
...Hahaha...
[7:45] TB: ;))
[7:45] Traven: the wolfhaven
websites will have attached forums for the money trees as well as other
wolfhaven products
[7:45] Traven: I will likely release the 'next'
version of the trees around December. (unless someone finds a horrible
bug)
[7:46] SA: what about a mt scanner in form of a shoulder pet for
newbies? only a thought^^
[7:46] Traven: and the december version will
have an optional Christmas theme to them
[7:46] MF: will it auto
update?
[7:46] Traven: yes
[7:46] Traven: the v4 trees
autoupdate
[7:46] TB: wow...not bad
[7:46] MF:
cool
[7:46] Traven: since they all report into the website via an
inworld relay system
[7:47] VS: Thanks for the presentation/discussion,
Traven!! (not trying to discourage continuing, but I gotta boogie
soon)
[7:47] Traven: the mt scanner shoulder pet is a great idea Sondra
- but not one I need pursue - between sl's search engine and the fact that
they're listed on a website - they can see where they are
[7:47]
Traven: it would be a great novelty item though
[7:47] Traven: in any
event folks that is a wrap
[7:47] MF: lets end in
prayer
[7:47] Traven: however I have a gift for each of
you
[7:47] MF: Our Lindens, who art in the Labs,
[7:47]
Traven: :)
[7:47] SA: yes, a little fun item with a function
;)
[7:47] MF: Hallowed be thy prims.
[7:48] MF: Thy Grid-dom
come, thy will be done,
[7:48] MF: On sims, as it is in The
Preview.
[7:48] MF: Give us this day our daily crash,
[7:48]
MF: And forgive us our Spammery.
[7:48] MF: As we forgive those, who
greif against us
[7:48] MF: And lead us not, into private
parcels.
[7:48] MF: Amen.
[7:48] Traven: mark check your trash
folder
[7:48] Traven: LOL
[7:48] TB: LOL
[7:49]
Traven: just a small thank you for coming out today :)
[7:49] SA:

[7:49] TB: wow very cool thank

[7:49] MF: i had to set busy because of gruop

[7:49] Traven: you retrieve it mark?
[7:49] SA: you`re too

[7:49] TB: ;))
[7:49] MF: yep got it . no
group IMs are a pain in the ass
[7:49] Traven: I agree
[7:50]
Traven: we should have a flag to turn THOSE off
[7:50] Traven:
LOL!
[7:50] SA: lol... delete group^^
[7:50] Traven: I don't
mind the occassional notice
[7:50] Traven: but the IM's -
gah
[7:50] MF: well the Nicholaz client allows you to filter group IMs
out but I'm using the RC at the moment
[7:50] Traven: Thank you ALL for
coming :)
[7:50] TB: lol a littel ass with great pain....oh my

[7:50] MF: thank you
[7:50] Traven: I'll post this
